The Mural Arts Program is seeking to commission an artist for "Girard
Crossing" at the intersections of Poplar Drive and Girard Avenue at 31st
Street. The goal of this project is to produce a vibrant work of public
art that will enhance and enliven the West Girard Gateway, create a sense of
place, and support the overall renaissance of the Girard Avenue commercial
corridor.

The budget for the project is $80,000.

Symposium “The Madison Project: Challenging the Public Art Paradigm”

Full Schedule and Speaker Lineup Announced

MADISON— UW Arts Institute Spring 2004 Artist in Residence, Garrison Roots, will host “The Madison Project: Challenging the Public Art Paradigm,” a two-day symposium on public art on March 5-6, 2004 in the 3rd floor Galleries of the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art, 211 State Street. A mix of national, regional and local artists, curators, and public arts professionals will participate in a series of panel discussions about art in the public sphere. Participants include nationally recognized public artists William Pope.L, Jack Mackie, David Avalos and Jill Sebastian; critics and curators Patricia Phillips, Jack Becker and David Wells; artists and UW art faculty Aris Georgiades and David Norr; and Chris Manke from the Wisconsin Arts Board.

The Oregon Arts Commission

The Oregon Arts Commission Percent for Art Program Announces an opportunity
at the Kelley Engineering Center at Oregon State University
in Corvallis, Oregon.

The Commission is seeking public artwork that reflects artistic excellence,
innovation, and the principles of engineering that the College is built
upon. Electronic and other new media formats are encouraged, along with more
traditional materials, all of which will be held to high standards of
aesthetics, durability, and ease of maintenance. Artist teams are encouraged
to apply.

The project budget is $250,000. Complete applications must be received no
later than 5pm on March 12, 2004.

Louisiana Division of the Arts
Deadline: April 16, 2004

The Louisiana Percent for Art Program announces a commission opportunity for
the Energy, Coast and Environment Building on the Lousiana State University
campus in Baton Rouge. The budget is $161,820.00 and the deadline for
applications is April 16, 2004.

The commission will address the outside concrete perimeter of the rotunda
portion of the Building which houses The School of the Coast and Environment
and The Center for Energy Studies. One artist or artist team will be
selected to create site specific work or works for the concrete perimeter
surrounding the building. All appropriate media are eligible for
consideration (not limited to 3-D). The artist's budget for the commission
includes all travel, materials, fabrication and installation costs. The
fabrication of the artwork will take place off-site by the artist and will
be installed when completed. The artwork created for this site must be
permanent and require minimal long-term maintenance.

Eligible artists must have experience with at least three similar public art
projects and the submitted two-page resume summary must demonstrate at least
ten years experience as a professional working artist. The commission will
be awarded in July, 2004.

West Jordan Courts Facility at 8050 South Redwood Road in West Jordan, Utah. The facility will house district and juvenile court functions for a portion of Salt Lake County in the third judicial district and will serve the southwest population of Salt Lake County. The facility will serve an estimated 900 to 1,200 patrons per day. Approximately 180 staff will be resident in the new facility.
Artists and/or artist teams are encouraged to submit proposals for the creation of site-specific artwork for this new facility. The art selection committee is interested in art that will foster the notion of the court as a part of the community and should speak to the courts relationship to the community and its role in problem solving and conflict resolution. The art should be inviting and create a feel of ease and openness to the community and families who use the facility. The all-inclusive budget for this project is $121,000. The deadline for receipt of proposals is April 2, 2004.
An optional pre-proposal information meeting for interested artists has been scheduled for March 3, 2004 at 5:30 p.m. at the Utah Public Art Program offices at 310 South Rio Grande (455 West) in the South Wing first floor of the Rio Grande (former) train station. This meeting will give artists the opportunity to direct specific questions about the project to the architect, Office of the Courts, Division of Facility Construction and Management and the Public Art Program as well as view site and building plans and elevations.
West Valley Driver License office at 2180 West 4700 South in West Valley City, Utah is nearing completion and will be open on April 12, 2004. This project’s art selection committee is interested in existing artwork or an artwork created for the facility that relates to the services being offered by the division and the West Valley City community. The all-inclusive budget for this project is $8,500. The deadline for receipt of proposals is April 30, 2004.
